The Journey 147. Cheri Seymour and Rachel Begley: Confronting A Killer

Publisher Kris Millegan speaks with Cheri Seymour and Rachel Begley about Cheri’s book, THE LAST CIRCLE: Danny Casolaro’s Investigation into The Octopus and the PROMIS Software Scandal, a basis for the new Netflix documentary, AMERICAN CONSPIRACY: The Octopus Murders.

Rachel’s story is featured in the last chapter. Her father was one of the “Alvarez” murders, the triple-homicide (execution style) on June 29, 1981, of Fred Alvarez, vice-chairman of the CABAZON Indian Tribal Council, Patricia Castro, and Rachel’s father.

After waiting 28 years for the murderer(s) to be found, Rachel gathered evidence and convinced the Riverside County Sheriff’s office to re-open the case. She worked closely with homicide detective John Powers to apprehend the self-confessed former CIA/Mafia hitman who was subsequently jailed for nine months awaiting trial.

Nineteen months before his arrest, Rachel confronted him at a public event where he was a keynote speaker on February 22, 2008, in Fresno, California. She was wearing a hidden camera and recorded him confiding to her that “… I was trained in the military. I killed people all over the world, right or wrong, because the government ordered me to.” Regarding Rachel’s father, he said, ” … they gave an order and that’s what happened to him. It’s big … you’re talking political people …”

Rachel’s website is desertfae.com, where she has posted substantiating documents and video links.

THE LAST CIRCLE is available at TrineDay.com and the usual sellers.

Author Cheri Seymour called Rachel “Danger Girl” and accompanied her into the California desert to interview a close acquaintance of the hitman, a witness who had a mansion surrounded by concrete walls and an electronic gate. Once inside the compound, Cheri and Rachel knew there would be no escape in the event of an emergency.

Luckily, they got out safely.

It is significant that police found inside Danny Casolaro’s shoe in the hotel where he died on August 10, 1991, a hand-written note that mentioned Fred Alvarez and the Cabazon Indian reservation in Indio, CA.

In the new NETFLIX documentary, AMERICAN CONSCPIRACY: The Octopus Murders, Detective John Powers is prominently interviewed about the Alvarez triple-homicide of 1981.
